Theatre de la mode was a touring exhibition of nearly two hundred dolls in elaborate sets created by Parisian couturiers that banded together in 1945 after World War II.
They created one of the most telling and fully complete representations of fashion splendour. With the world in restoration and city in great need, the Theatre de la mode introduced to the world, apparel of ‘perfection in miniature’ with not a single detail missing.
The exhibition premiered in Paris and later toured Europe and America, with the final stop in San Francisco were the dolls remained until the early 1950’s.
In the 1990’s the dolls embarked on a second world tour visiting Paris, New York, Baltimore, Portland and Tokyo.
In class we got the opportunity to create our own dolls based on our Cultural signposts research. The outfit I have created for my doll focuses on a combination of the new red carpet look and the modern day Little Black dress. She is a modern day film star with a chic sense of style.
